How to Plant CloverSport
Perennial ryegrass germinates in 5–7 days; MicroClover in 7–10 days; tall fescue in 10–14 days. Seed in fall (Aug–Sep) for strongest establishment in Zones 5–9. Spring seeding (Apr–May) works well in Zones 3–5.
- Prepare or mow short. For bare soil, rake smooth, firm lightly, and remove debris. For overseeding, mow existing grass to 1–1.5 inches and remove clippings to expose the soil surface.
- Broadcast at the surface. Sow per 1,000 sq ft for new lawns. For overseeding, sow per 1,000 sq ft. Do not bury — MicroClover requires light surface contact to germinate.
- Rake lightly for soil contact. A single pass with a leaf rake is sufficient for both the fescue and clover components.
- Water lightly and consistently. Keep the surface moist with two light waterings per day for 7–14 days. Ryegrass will be visible first at 5–7 days; MicroClover follows at 7–10 days; tall fescue completes germination at 10–14 days.
- Hold mowing for 4–6 weeks. Allow all three species to root before the first mow. Set blades to 3 inches minimum in the first season — never scalp a new lawn.
- Mow regularly at 2–3 inches. Unlike fine fescue mixes, CloverSport performs best with regular mowing at a standard lawn height. MicroClover stays below mowing height and continues fixing nitrogen regardless of how often you mow.
