What equipment considerations actually change between conventional turf and eco-lawn seed installation.
A few real distinctions
- Broadcast spreaders over drop spreaders. Fine-seeded species (thyme, moss, microclover) generally need a broadcast spreader capable of a light, even application — a standard drop spreader calibrated for turf-grass rates will often over-apply.
- Light surface preparation, not always full tillage. Many of our species need seed-to-soil contact, not deep tillage — aggressive tilling can do more harm than good on an already-workable site.
- Irrigation for establishment, not maintenance. Temporary establishment irrigation matters more for these species than the long-term irrigation setup, since most are chosen specifically to need less water once established.
