Safe for kids and pets
Our play blend is white clover / microclover plus fine fescue — clover is listed not on the ASPCA toxic list and fescue isn’t a listed toxic grass, so it’s a soft, chemical-free surface for kids and pets alike. As always, discourage eating large amounts of any plant or fresh seed.
Sow it in three steps
- Spread. Sow a fresh play lawn or overseed your existing grass.
- Water. Keep moist; clover germinates in about 5–10 days.
- Play on. Mow high, skip the fertiliser, enjoy a softer, tougher lawn.
Common questions
Is it safe if my child or pet touches or eats it?
The blend is built on clover and fine fescue, neither on the ASPCA toxic list. As with any lawn, discourage eating large amounts or fresh seed, but the plants aren’t toxic.
Will it survive constant play?
A clover + fine-fescue blend is the most wear-tolerant lawn alternative — fescue handles traffic and clover self-repairs. Add stepping stones on daily desire-lines.
Do I need lawn chemicals?
No — clover fixes its own nitrogen, so no synthetic fertiliser is needed, which is one less thing around kids and pets.
When should I plant?
Spring or early autumn, when soil is warm and moisture is reliable.
